Upcoming Show!

I'll be having a two person show at Metropolis Coffee starting Monday, Sept 14th through Nov 1. There will be six new pieces in addition to some older works and prints. There will be an opening reception the following weekend. I will post more specifics as the details come in. Here's a detail shot of one of the new pieces in the show. Enjoy!

Trip

Just got back from visiting friends and family back home in Miami. A much needed break from what can sometimes seem like an endless routine of work. I'm back with a fresh mentality and am excited to create some new work that will no doubt explore different avenues of style and concept. I'll definitely post any work that will come out of this painting blitz I'm about to embark on. Anyways, on a side note, I finally got around to scanning my "Hope" painting (from previous post) and uploaded it up on my website.

HOPE

Here's a crude picture of my most recent painting. As soon as I get it properly documented I'll move it on over to my website. I'm kind of angry at how long it takes me to paint these days. I don't know what makes me hesitate so much. I'm going to make a series of quick paintings over the next few weeks and see where that takes me. I won't even worry about the end result, just as long as I produce a lot and get used to painting faster. Oh, yeah, so about the painting I posted....it's called "HOPE", and there's a raven down below that's really hard to see right now, but it's there. I had to try not to go overboard with this one. Like someone who is insecure about their body overdresses, I feel insecure when my paintings are (relatively) straightforward. I want to add a bunch of images and ideas so that I feel like I'm making the painting worth more somehow. This was my attempt at scaling back a little bit and actually placing the figure in a recognizable space (compared to my previous ones at least). So there you have it. A little behind the scenes of my brain unit.

Study

This was a study I made while at a friend's place. His wife was cold so she wound a scarf over her head and surfed the web. I thought it was a pretty cool pose, so having my sketchbook and paints at my side, I went at it. It was fun being spontaneous and painting from life again. This one took about a half hour.

Communication Arts Illustration Competition

So I've finally managed to submit not one, but five images for the Communications Arts Illustration Competition. I somehow get the feeling that I can get in this time (I think I applied a couple years ago...to no avail). I don't mean to get my hopes up, but sometimes that sensation just appears on its own. I'll probably forget about this until the magazine comes out and end up spotting it in a bookstore and just be like "Oh yeah, wonder if I got in". Anyways, that's that. If you read this, wish me a little luck. I promise I'll send happy thoughts your way.

New Tides

Welcome! As the title suggests, this is a time of change and rebirth. If you came here through my website, then you've already seen the changes that have been made that signal a wave a things to come. This blog was created with the sole purpose of giving you a more direct feed into my artistic life and activities. I will be posting shows, works in progress (as well as sketches and other small gems that won't appear on my website), and more insight into my artistic process. Enjoy!
